Essence of Gurukkal
Our forefathers are believed to be early Brahmin migrants who were gurus to medieval kings like Rajaraj 1 and brought many of them into the fold of 'Saivism'. The name of our community is derived from the plural form of the Sanskrit word 'guru', which means a spiritual leader.
